The DON’T in an Interview

A crucial phase in the interview process as you seek jobs is to impress the hiring manager. For a successful interview, there are some DON’Ts to keep in mind.

THE DONT’s IN AN INTERVIEW

DON’T DRESS DOWN

As you dress in accordance to the company culture, take caution not to dress down. You are better off dressing slightly more formal as opposed to showing up for the interview too casually. The aspect of your dress code is important because it is the first thing the interviewer notices about you besides the CV. Don’t ruin it by dressing down in such a manner that you are deemed less serious about the job.

DON’T PANIC
Just the thought of taking an interview can exhaust you. However, that does not give you an excuse to panic in the interview room. Don’t show any signs of fear when things start going against your expectations. Doing so only gets you ready to say something that you cannot take back.

DON’T GO OFF-TOPIC
As you wait to take the interview, you may have pre-meditated statements that you want to make. Probably, you want to get into details regarding how skilled you are for the job and your diverse experience in the domain. But that does not meet everything that the hiring manager wants. Stay on topic by answering the questions as asked. If your resume is not yet brought up, don’t get into it.

To sum up, keep the don’ts in mind before the Interview and do your best. Keep in mind that you are here to both sell your skills and also to understand whether the organisation suits you. Thus, whichever direction the interview takes, you will learn something new. You can always use that knowledge the next time you seek jobs in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch or anywhere in world.
